If you’ve noticed that your headlights aren’t as bright as they once were, there are several methods you can to try to restore them. One trick is with a little toothpaste added to a rag wetted down with warm water. Just scrub each of the lenses and wipe off with a warm rinsed cloth. It is much more effective with plastic lenses than glass.
You may find insect spray that contains DEET to be more effective at cleaning the headlights. One word of caution here, the spray will take the paint off of your vehicle. It’s important to wear protective gloves and spray it on the cloth rather than the headlight.
A sandpaper and polish combination is effective with glass lenses but requires care. Begin with a coarse paper and gently begin removing scratches. Gradually move to a fine grit paper followed by polishing. If you are not comfortable with this process, it’s best to try one of the others, purchase a kit, or leave the cleaning process to the professionals.
